Study in Spain will be traveling throughout the US again this academic yearValerie Lake

I have always wanted to learn Spanish and be able to speak it well with others. When I started learning Spanish I got an interest in the culture and the history, so I decided to go on a study abroad trip to Spain. My teacher Dr. Choi, was also a huge influence on my decision to make Spanish my minor and to go to Spain. My interest in SiS came from Dr. Choi as well. She thought that I would make a great candidate for the program, and told me to put in an application. So far I have enjoyed every moment that I have had learning about the Spanish language, its culture, and its history. I look forward to learning more, because there is always more to learn and room for improvement.

The present year, 2011, will once more have the Study in Spain program participating in the most important education fairs and events.

Since its opening, the Embassy of Spain-Trade Commission Miami, with the support of ICEX (Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade) and EDUESPAÑA have carried Study in Spain all across the US in an effort to promote international education in Spain.

The rewards have been undeniable, as Spain is the third preferred destination for American students worldwide.

This is a brief preview of the projected participation of Study in Spain. The dates and/or events may be subject to changes.

In the Greek Theater of Los Angeles we had the opportunity to talk with the comedian of the moment Russell Brand. His sense of humor and his sex appeal are the best attraction for this brit that in our interview confesses to be in love with Spain and the Spanish language. Brad is not very shy at the time to talk about this past and he even tried to talk in Spanish during the interview. As an avid lover of the Spanish culture he confesses he is reading the classics of the Spanish literature. Married with the singer Katy Perry, Russell is already shooting a new movie in New York.

Is true that you are in love with Spain?
Yes. I lived for a littler while in Madrid. When I was young I had a madrileña girlfriend. I lived a few months there. I love Spain and their culture; right now I’m trying to learn Spanish.

Why?
Is very important to talk in Spanish because is the language of the workers. Is the language of the revolution. Is the language of love. I like to read the writings of Pablo Neruda, Lorca, Cervantes.  The Spanish is a beautiful language. And I like the Spanish people, their passion, they are very funny.

Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. A Little bit. I’m learning Spanish in this moment.

When did you live in Spain?
I was 19 and I fell in love of a young girl in El Escorial. After that I had another girlfriend in Barcelona. The Spanish women are wonderful.

Would you come back son to Spain?
Yes. I love Spain.

What type of characters are you looking for?
Up until now I only wanted to do comedy. But as any other artist I go through up and downs. I’m starting as an actor and I enjoy the process.

You are the new comedian in Hollywood?
worked very hard to get where I am right now. I realize that everything is irrelevant. The fact that I’m famous in USA doesn’t mean a lot, maybe my next job is to become a dancer for the talibans. I love to make people laugh, even in war zones. I want that everybody comes to the movies to watch my movies.

When was the last time you have been to Spain?
I had the good fortune to be part of the Trade Commission’s recent tour to several Spanish universities and language institutes in late March. Prior to that trip, I had visited Bilbao and Santander on several occasions.

What do you enjoy most about Spain?
This is a difficult question because there’s so much I enjoy about Spain: the people, the food, the diversity of the regions, the sense of history, the wine….I should stop here!

What do you think are the advantages of Spain as a destination for American students?
Students can benefit from solid academic programs, welcoming people and an opportunity to be immersed in a country with a rich history.

Could you describe the Study Abroad programs your university has with Spain?
Our university system currently has one language intensive program at the University of Cantabria. We’re currently exploring other opportunities as a result of my recent visit.

How satisfied are, in general, American students going to Spain?
Our students have been very satisfied with their experiences in Spain. Many of them comment that their program in Spain is the highlight of their undergraduate careers.
