Library grant to expand children’s collection

Words of excitement spread between the librarians of the Henderson County Clint W. Murchison Memorial Library that the children’s Spanish collection would double its size.

The library recently announced in its June newsletter that it was awarded the Texas Book Festival Collections Enhancement Grant in the amount of $2,500. The grant will assist the library in serving the needs of the Spanish community in Athens.

“We just really needed to make a point to grow our collection,” Library Director Rachel Cox said.

According to texasbookfestival.org, the Texas Book Festival has funded 1,121 grants totaling nearly $3 million to over 600 libraries in Texas since 1996. This year, the Texas Book Festival awarded a sum of $100,000 in grant support to 44 libraries.
