Bilingual teachers, Florida needs you

In today's globally interconnected world, if you don't understand at least one of these phrases, you're at a distinct disadvantage. We as Floridians recognize this fact. We want to ensure our students' future success and advocate that our public schools implement and augment their dual-language offerings.

Dual language is a type of bilingual education, in which children are taught their courses in two languages with the goal of reaching bilingualism and biliteracy. Science has proved that learning a new language at a young age has tremendous benefits. Not only does it allow children to learn from more people, appreciate various cultures, and grow their empathy, it also increases their cognitive skills, improves their flexibility in thinking and can even ward off dementia in old age.

Miami-Dade County has provided these programs since the 1960s, but now other school districts such as Hillsborough, Broward, Palm Beach, Duval and Seminole boast this praise-worthy programming, with the number of students served increasing each year.
