All Bethlehem elementary kids may soon learn Spanish

Soon, words like hola, rojo and hablo may be rolling off the tongues of Bethlehem-area elementary school students. That's because next yearBethlehem Area School District students in grades K-5 may have a new addition to their specialist rotation: Spanish.

Administrators are pitching an overhaul of the district's foreign language program that would introduce all district students to Spanish starting in kindergarten. Students would continue taking Spanish class through fifth grade.

The program would not be a Spanish immersion program.

The language class would join gym, library, technology, art and music as related-arts specialists that every student now rotates through weekly. Instead of Monday always being, for example, music day, the district would adopt a six-day cycle school schedule to add Spanish.
