American Government supports international education

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan supported the global education and language trend in American schools in a recent speech to the Council on Foreign Relations.
He believes that language learning and exchanges are needed in the United States to help bring security to the world and to build stronger ties with other countries.
A countries long term economic prospects depend the education of our people and international education and innovation are the currency of the 21st century - he said. Federal funding is driving school reform towards more global education an language learning.

The Second Study in Spain Annual Meeting took place in New York, at the King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center, May 27th.
The 10 best Study in Spain Student Ambassadors were the main protagonists at the event. One of them was to be awarded with a seven day trip to Spain for his/her efforts to promote Spain as a Study Abroad destination. Finally, Kenneth Negy from University of Central Florida won the price and will be travelling to Spain next winter.
The Student Ambassador Program was launched by the Spanish Embassy with the collaboration of Eduespaña and is aimed on enhancing the skills and knowledge of the Spanish language within the American students as well as spreading the study abroad opportunities available in Spain.
Secretary of State for Commerce, Silvia Iranzo, chaired the event. Mario Buisán, Trade Commissioner of the Spanish Embassy in Miami and Ignacio Dominguez, Director of Services and Cultural Services Department of ICEX in the United States and Oscar Berdugo, Director of Eduespaña, also attended.
Coinciding with this Second Study in Spain Annual Meeting, the Embassy of Spain organized the first “Reencuentro España – Nueva York”, which attracted several professors and students from different universities. Maria Jose Soares, Director of International Programs at Setton Hall University (NJ) gave a speech in which she explained the increasing popularity of Spain as a Study Abroad destination. The Reencuentro España - Nueva York aims on improving the communication between Spanish Administration and American Institutions to get better results in future collaborations.
