Q. What are you reading?
A. Paul Aster. I am half-way through New York Trilogy and since I lived there, I am fascinated by his description of the city. And I just recently finished Everyman by Philip Roth.
Q. Out of all that you have read, which book has impacted you the most?
A. Love in the Time of Cholera. I read it when I was in 10th grade and my boyfriend was younger than me, so I totally identified with the book when I read it.
Q. And a favorite author?
A. Gabriel García Márquez, for his book, Cien años de soledad. An extremely beautiful book. I had hoped to meet him during the filming of Love in the Time of Cholera, but wasn’t able to. At least I met his son, Rodrigo, a little piece of him.
Q. What would you do to get young people interested in reading?
A. You need to get them interested from the time they are very young. My mother used to read to me a lot, and it is an acquired habit. You need to turn off the television and read; none of this going to bed to read, because that is a lie. You go to bed and you fall asleep.
