Matt Damon
Matt Damon is Hollywood’s most profitable actor, bringing in more gross income than any other star per dollar received. But the lone Oscar this 36-year-old Massachusetts native has received was a best original screenplay award for the 1997 film Good Will Hunting , in which he also starred. Damon is an avid reader and currently is studying Spanish – a language he has dabbled in since meeting Argentine Luciana Barroso, his current wife – in hopes of giving his daughters Alexia and Isabella the best possible bilingual education.
Q. How good is your command of Spanish?
A. It’s a little tough for me, but I can get by on an everyday level on the street in Argentina .
Q. Do you read in Spanish?
A. The type of reading I can do in Spanish is not what interests me; it’s not enough to express ideas.
Q. Or at least to read to your daughters?
A. I have a book from university, “Literature and Art,” for learning languages which is what I’m reading in Spanish.
Q. And in English?
A. “Imperial Life in Emerald City ,” “Freakonomics,” “The End of Poverty” as far as non-fiction, and “ Revolutionary Road ” in fiction. Although now everything I read tends to be non-fiction.
Q. Who is your favorite author?
A. J.D.Salinger.
Q. Which is your favorite book?
A. “All the Pretty Horses” by Cormac McCarthy.
Q. Where is your preferred place to read?
A. On the plane when I’m not with my family.
Q. And a favorite moment?
A. There’s no particular moment but when I get into a book I find time to read it through quickly. Last year I read like ten.
