Robert Pattinson

on .

These are easier for me because the hardest thing is doing the conventional junket thing when you’ve got one person under three minutes, cause you feel like you have to provide all the energy, (laughs) but whereas when there is more people I find it easy, you get something back at least.

Q How are you?

I’m all right, yeah.

Q:  Are you getting tired?

Q: Do you speak Spanish?

A little bit. I did study Spanish at school and with all the travels around the world for Twilight I had opportunity to talk.

Q: Are you planning to keep studying Spanish?

I would love to but I don’t have much time. I would love to read in Spanish.

Q:  How do you feel about those unconditional fans?
I mean, I don’t think it’s unconditional, that’s the thing, there are conditions, but it’s just very confusing what those conditions are, like even to them I think.  But it’s not like they will follow you to do anything, they’ve decided what they like about you and if you fail to maintain that, then they won’t like you anymore.  I don’t think there’s any such thing as an unconditional fan.

Q:  But do you think about maintaining it?

Yeah, but only in the obvious ways, I mean you don’t kind of like, everyone is saying like oh, it must be hard for fans and stuff coming up to you all the time, but fans are easy, there’s so many people in the world who don’t like you, who come up to you to say that, when you have people who say, coming up to say that they do like you, it’s like cool, (laughs) like I’m with you guys.  (Laughter)

Q:  do you have anything you are passionate about?

Yeah, I mean, it’s always kind of difficult, I mean, I know it’s kind of ridiculous, but I always feel like, cause a lot of celebrities seem to do things just so they look good afterwards, and they are still doing something good, so I don’t know why I judge them on it, (laughs) but I really want to do something about education, and especially in America or in England more so than around the world, because I think in the long term it’s going to probably be more beneficial to everywhere and also, I know more about it, I’ve never been to that many places.  (laughs) But I’ve been getting more and more obsessed with that over the last couple of years.

Q:  How was your own education?

Like great…

Q:  You didn’t have any terrible teachers?
None at all, I went to a really strict school to begin with and then the 2nd school I went to was almost the opposite, and it was very arty and like somewhere I had never, ever thought about going, and that’s why I kind of ended up doing what I’m doing, and I would probably be working in a bank or something if I followed along the other school, and been significantly less happy.

Q:  It’s pretty amazing that you want to invest in education because you give opportunity to many kids.  It’s very impressive.

No I mean, I haven’t done anything yet, (laughs) but I have very specific ideas about what I want to do, I mean I was talking to some people who work for this organization called Teach for America, which I’ve always really liked their program, it was like just letting graduates bypass the kind of standard teaching qualifications to kind of get really young people who are kind of enthusiastic about teaching, into a kind of inner city schools where they really have low performance ratings and stuff.  And I read an interview with the woman who started it and I thought she sounded amazing and I just wanted to do something with them ever since.  But I don’t really know, I can’t really do any academic subjects (laughs) I’m rubbish at everything.

Q:  But being you with so many fans that age and teenagers would be good, even if you talk about bullying in school, but anything like that will be fantastic.

Yeah, but I kind of want to do something more general, because I think, there are a lot of people who do specific targeted charity work and I don’t know, I just want people to kind of feel that they could do whatever they feel that they can’t do, just make them feel that they can do, because I think that anyone can pretty much do anything.  Or everyone has got something that they can do really well, and once they start doing something really well they feel really great about themselves, so I kind of want to do something about that.

Q:  In Breaking Dawn, Edward, obviously he loves Bella, but he also hurts her in the way that she almost dies, having his baby, and in Water for Elephants, you played earlier this year, your character there loves, I forgotten her name, but by doing that, he risks something, because you have the husband, Christoph Waltz lurking in the back, privately, has there ever been a time in your life where you have loved something or someone and at the same time, you had this other side that you might end up hurting anyone?

I don’t think so, not that I’ve been aware of.  (laughs)  But probably, I think everybody does at some point.  But yeah, I don’t know, I don’t think so, I don’t really like having like relationships which are about sacrificing too much or kind of having to let go of other things that you’ve loved just because you love one thing and I don’t think I’ve ever had to experience that really.

Q:  What is it about playing Edward that you would like to, now that this is ending, what is it that you would like to take and bring with you towards the rest of your career?

I don’t know, I mean like I felt doing Twilight movies and then doing movies in between, and I always felt that you bring whatever you find satisfying and fun and interesting, on one movie you bring it to the next one, even if it wasn’t a Twilight movie, and then for the ones outside the franchise, God, I’ve got to stop calling it a franchise, I hate that, it sounds like, Burger King is a franchise, like it’s the movie as a series, (laughs)  yeah, you kind of just keep developing gradually and so I feel like I have worked with a bunch of really different and really great directors, for five movies.  I mean, you inevitably bring a ton of stuff, not one specific thing, I mean.
