Paying tribute to Spanish, the second most spoken language in the world

The Congress of Deputies is hosting the closing event of the First Tribute to the Spanish Language (Homenaje al Idioma Español) ever celebrated in the history of Spain. Representatives from the political, cultural, and business spheres have come together in the Ernest Lluch Hall of the Congress to celebrate this historic event and to explain, before the hundreds of attendees, the significance that Spanish language had, and has now, in society as a whole.

 

Majority of Floridians support requiring Spanish in public schools

Two-thirds of Floridians support requiring Spanish language instruction in Florida public schools, according to a new University of Florida survey. "Overall reactions to the notion that Spanish should be a required subject in public schools was far less polarized and more popular than we imagined," said Chris McCarty, director of the University of Florida Survey Research Center at the Bureau of Economic and Business Research, which conducted the survey.
