Uber Español now Available in San Antonio

Uber has announces that it's now offering San Antonio its Uber Español service, which allows customers to select Spanish-speaking drivers when they're ordering up a ride. The service is available in a handful of cities, including San Diego, Chicago, Los Angeles and Phoenix.  To request a Spanish-speaking driver, users need to enter the code ESPANOLTX in the Promotions tab, select UberX in the vehicle menu, then select the Español option. Sounds more complicated than it really is. 

Lexington, Kentucky University to host renowned Spanish artists.

Transylvania University will welcome two prominent Spanish artists and poets to campus for their North American debut."Alexandra Dominguez and Juan Carlos Mestre will visit classes at Transylvania and two public schools: Bryan Station High School and the School of the Creative and Performing Arts. They also will give a free, public reading of their work on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Transylvania’s Carrick Theater. Following the reading, a reception in Morlan Gallery will feature “Swept Up in Whispers,” a colorful exhibition of their art books, etchings and paintings.

Americans Speak Over 350 Languages At Home, Census Data Shows

More than 60 million Americans over the age of five speak a language other than English in their home. Americans speak more than 350 languages in their homes according to data released Tuesday by the Census Bureau. Findings from the 2009-2013 American Community Survey show more than 60 million Americans over the age of five speak a language other than English in their home. Spanish is by far the most common language and is spoken in the home by 37 million people.

Assistant superintendent proposes Spanish immersion program at Wyoming school district.

Albany County School District No. 1 in Wyoming is contemplating a new Spanish immersion program that would introduce students to the language from an early age."The concept is still in the brainstorming phase, said John Weigel, assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and accountability. He hopes to get feedback from parents and the ACSD No. 1 Board of Education to see what direction to take the proposed program.
